Don't think the presence of forks hasn't escaped her notice either, or the strange sight and smell of nearby french fries. What a crazy exotic modern place. Now she's just going to press a button and let out a small gasp as some coffee starts pouring out into the bottom drain thing of the coffee machines.] ♛ [as for TOBY he is at the welcome feast, looking for a drink, preferably a JD. Because he's rude and isn't really paying attention to where he's going, he bumps right into your character] meme code.

[Ludger smiles at Mary. What a nice young lady. It seems like she is being surprised by the coffee machine. They have lots of those in Trigleph, but a lot of Reize Maxians are kinda shocked by the technology, so he's used to this. He points to buttons, and asks,] Milk or cream?

Oh, pardon me. [she looks at the machine as if it is magic, because clearly it is, and then remembering herself, smiles at Ludger] Milk, I suppose, thank you.

[He smiles back and nods. Then he pushes the button so that some milk comes out into her cup. Yay! Help for a nice lady.]

But - that was - [some more astonished staring, before she smiles at him, because dude, that is awesome] That was remarkable. I have never seen anything of the sort. [she looks down at her drink, then at Ludger] And it's safe to drink?

[He smiles encouragingly and nods. To reassure her, he grabs a cup for himself so he too can have coffee and she can know it is okay. See? No problems!]

[so...she follows his lead. she's sure somewhere Catherine would scold her for accepting a drink from a stranger, but whatever, this is cool so she will drink it up] I have never seen anything like this before. Are you an explorer? [dude knows his way around coffee, after all]

[He laughs a little and scratches the back of his head, tilting it from one side of the other. Is he an explorer? Well, he does travel a lot, and in a way he explores alternate dimensions. But also he destroys them. So that feels dubious. He isn't exactly sure if that counts.] Not really . . .

I would hope so. [still not entirely convinced, but whatever... She will just smooth down her dress, and then take her coffee again and enjoy it in all its deliciousness] Your request filling reputation must precede you if you've been brought to this place. Did you travel very far for those requests?

[He nods again, relaxed now that she isn't accusing him of illegal things. He also smiles.] Yeah. Nowhere like this.

We are strangers in a very strange land. [she smiles, because, well, that knife can only get her so far] Fortunately for us that first part can be remedied quickly enough. I'm Mary, a pleasure to meet you.

[He extends his hand to her for a handshake.] Ludger. You too. [People offer their hands to ladies WELCOME TO THE FUTURE, MARY]

[Well, that is unexpected. Mary will just offer her hand out, palm down. Maybe this dude just fails at courtly greetings, whatever]
